Grocery store fun!

Written 21 September 2001

I went shopping at the Bread and Circus near Brown campus tonight because I needed to buy some dehydrated bean curd and I knew that they had it. Also tree ears. Also I thought they had salt & pepper kettle chips but no.

Anyway, when I got in the checkout line I got to hear one of the checkout guys loudly haranguing a customer about Star Trek.

SO YOU SEE, WARP TEN IS INFINITE SPEED, SO YOU CAN'T EVER REACH IT, BUT WARP 9.9 IS REALLY FAST AND WARP 9.99 IS EVEN FASTER. SEE, IF YOU MADE A GRAPH--

I smiled at my cashier in sympathy, which message she appeared to get. Meanwhile, it became time for the customer who was being harangued to pay, so there was silence for a moment, then:

HERE YOU GO. SO ANYWAY, LIKE I WAS SAYING ABOUT THIS GRAPH, AS YOU GET CLOSER TO WARP TEN--

At this point I managed to escape. I think the other customer was contemplating chewing her leg off.
